MA’s in Scotland Currently 6000 registered in Scotland Total of 4200 undertook the 5 th framework In Hospitality 3900 in Travel 300 Achievement is around 37 % 30% of males achieved – 45% of females achieved the full framework Chef is the most popular route, followed by food and drink service Exemptions account for about 15% of entries now

Consultation SSC’s must consult widely with: Industry Education Training Providers Qualifications Authorities / Awarding Bodies Careers Organisations Key stakeholders (Enterprise / Executive)
Improving completion SSC's must: Evaluate reasons for non-completion Develop a strategy for improving completion Must demonstrate that there is sufficient quality capacity to deliver the MA Must consider its’ role in the quality of delivery Present evidence that these strategies will work and have been consulted on.
MA Review Proposals
Content New route for SVQ 3 and 4 combination SVQ 3 will remain main outcome Exemption will still apply for those that meet exemption criteria Additional VQ units will be optional Introducing “industry awards” specific to routes – i.e. Servewise Plus.

Improving retention Access to MA via CV only One years relevant industry experience or 6 months relevant accredited training – to access MA Providers need to demonstrate acceptable results and to achieve a minimum level of framework achievement. Code of Practice for training providers - compulsory Introduce Best practice annual forum – compulsory
Improving retention Standard guidance on recruitment Standard guidance on induction LECs can audit SSC paperwork Exit reports – all accredited achievement is recorded by the provider and sent to People 1 st for collation Providers failing to deliver any element of the revised programme, People 1 st to retain the right to refuse / remove centre approval

Methodology Wide consultation with each group. All returns will be discussed by focus / steering group No element is sacred! All inclusions/exclusions based solely on returns / evidenced demand Submit framework to MAIG in October Three month approval process Introduce framework in December 2005
