Reading Strategies Reading Strategies is a course designed to support individualized student literacy needs and goals. In this class, students will apply learning from literacy class as well as learn new reading skills and strategies that can be applied in all subject areas. Activities are tailored to individual student needs, reading skill levels, and interests. Progress monitoring Student goals and data collection

Reading Strategies Reading Strategies will be supplemented with the Language! program two days per week. Students will also read novels which support reading skills, strategies, and themes addressed in grade level literacy classes.

Homework 0 Reading logs 0 Designed to emphasize specific reading skills and strategies 0 Fifteen minutes of reading required per night 0 Logs posted on website High-interest classroom novels will be chosen in conjunction with Wydown literacy teachers in order to incorporate grade-level themes and skills. It is also critical that students read books on their independent and instructional reading levels. Students benefit from independent reading as well as reading with you at home. Please read to your student as well as allow your student to read to you.

Suggestions for Home: 0 Set up regular routines and a quiet space for your child to read and do homework. 0 Check that homework has been completed. 0 Ask about what’s being taught in Language! and other classes in school. 0 Help your child find books he or she likes at the right level. 0 Encourage your child to read every day. 0 Ask your child to read out loud to you, or share the reading of a book together. 0 Be a good role model by letting your children see you reading, writing letters or s, and doing other literacy-related tasks. 0 In a visible place, keep an updated list of books your child has read. 0 Let them know you’re proud of them as they read, study, and learn!
