to provide INFORMATION, support services and to share experiences, knowledge and skills in a CARING ENVIRONMENT with others who are in a similar situation.

Samahan ng Lusog Baga Association, Inc. (SLBAI) ADVISERS: Dr. Raoul Villarete and Dr. Vivian Lofranco  A non-stock, non-profit association with office located at the LCP-NCPR  Composed of former TB / DRTB patients  Established in 2001 and SEC registered in April 5,2005  Currently with 40 active members  Active member: Country Coordinating Mechanism, GFATM, PhilCAT (multi-sectoral organization promoting PPMD)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS  Serve as Contact Person in organizing community outreach programs in coordination with the LCP DOTS Center Staff and the local government units in the depressed areas in Quezon City and other areas in Metro Manila.  Refer identified presumptive TB to the LCP DOTS Center for diagnosis and treatment. Samahan ng Lusog Baga Association, Inc. (SLBAI)

 Promote DOTS Services.  Act as TB advocates  Serve as treatment partner, if necessary, to TB cases who live near his/her house.  Assist the DOTS Center Staff in retrieving defaulters  Act as peer educator to ongoing DRTB  Refer or report TB patients who experience adverse reaction/s or side effect/s from the medicines taken through the LCP DOTS Center.

Activities… Community outreach in depressed areas in Quezon City Share experiences and serve as TB advocates during World TB Day and other National Events

Participation in national events like World TB Day and annual convention/seminars to raise TB awareness and concerns by sharing testimonies; press conferences. With Sec. Ona, Asec. Lagahid, Dir. Asuncion, Dr. Vianzon, Dr. Garfin

Strategic Planning-Workshop on Human Rights Based Approach in ACSM for Tuberculosis (TB) Key Affected Persons (KAP) May 26-29, 2014, Camp John Hay, Baguio City 27 KAP’s from different DOTS facilities: Lung Center of the Philippines, Kasaka, Tayuman, San Lazaro, Batangas Medical Center, De La Salle-Cavite, and Baguio General Hospital.

Actively participate……………  Act as peer educator to ongoing DRTB to address the increasing loss to follow up  Convince other cured patients as volunteers or treatment partners  Organize a national KAP summit for clear future directions in TB control

Needs  Proper training as peer educator/counselors  Group representation for livelihood programs, involvement in NTP activities on planning, advocacy  Institutionalize the KAP group

PLANS  Formulate guidelines for the formation of patient organizations.  Capacity building to become peer counselors / peer educators  Strengthen and improve livelihood programs.  Tap funding agencies to provide for the projects/plans of different patient support groups

And we, as Patient support group as well as the health care providers have a BIG ROLE TO PLAY IN TB CONTROL.
