Career Help: Preparing Adult Learners for a Successful Job Interview By Mimi Khalel & Cynthia Walgenbach

JobQuest: The Goal Students will gain the following skills to prepare for a job interview: The vocabulary to describe themselves. The knowledge of what constitutes an appropriate interview answer.

JobQuest: The Task Students put their new skills to use by answering interview questions as a handyman, cashier, housekeeper, office clerk or as a salesperson.

JobQuest: The Process Utilizing the Web as a Job Resource: Using an online dictionary to find common interview adjectives. Visiting web sites for sample job interview questions. Utilizing Hot Potatoes as a Reinforcement Tool: Filling in the blanks with the correct vocabulary. Finding the appropriate job interview answers in a multiple-choice activity.

The Interview: The Goal Students listen to a sample interview and draw on their background knowledge to identify and correct common inappropriate interview answers.

The Interview: The Task Pre: Students complete a matching activity to review key vocabulary. While: Students listen to a sample interview and identify the interviewee’s mistakes: Using the wrong vocabulary. Giving inappropriate answers. Post: Students write down what they think the right answer might be. Bonus: For extra help students complete activities to check their answers.
