Circulatory System Notes

Pulmonary Circulation: Lungs, oxygen into blood, carbon dioxide out Systemic Circulation: Moves blood to body (not to heart or lungs) Coronary or Cardiac Circulation: Moves blood to the heart muscle

Chamber: one of the four sections of the heart Valve- keeps the blood flowing in one direction in heart and veins Pacemaker- controls heart rate Atria (atrium)- the top two chambers of the heart that receive blood from lungs or body

Ventricles- lower chambers that pump blood to the body or lungs Arteries- Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart Veins- Blood vessels that carry blood to the heart

Capillaries- microscopic blood vessels that connect arteries and veins Coronary arteries- blood vessels that carry blood to the heart muscle Blood pressure- force of blood- highest in arteries Hypertension- high blood pressure

Route of Blood Superior/Inferior Vena Cava (Blue) Right Atrium Valve Right Ventricle valve Pulmonary Artery (no oxygen/blue) Lungs (capillaries) Pulmonary Vein (oxygen/red) Left Atrium valve Left Ventricle valve Arteries to Body (oxygen/red) Aorta Capillaries
