Ballad A narrative poem which is meant to be sung. Ballads are the narrative species of folk songs. Typically, a ballad is dramatic, condensed and impersonal.

Epic A long narrative poem on a serious subject or action involving heroic characters. An epic is told in a formal and elevated style.
