Central Primary School Arts Day Kindergarten: Paul Klee- Cats

Paul Klee Born in Switzerland Loved to play the violin and paint

Paul Klee Color was very important to him and each color he placed in his painting was significant to him. Loved cats

Cat and Bird Klee owned many cats and they sat beside him as he painted. Do you see the bird? The bird is inside the cat’s dream.

Do you think the cat wanted to eat the bird?

Did You Know… That Paul Klee could paint with both his right and left hand? That he was considered a very famous painter while he was alive and that the public called him the “magical painter”? That Paul Klee wrote poetry?

Supplies You Will Need… 12” x 18” white 90# watercolor paper Black oil pastels Watercolor paint Water containers

Prep Give each child a piece of watercolor paper and oil pastel

Prep Set two containers of water per 5-6 kids and 1 brush per child.

Tips When teaching little ones to paint, give parameters. In this lesson, ask the children to paint the cat’s face first instead of just telling them to “start painting”. By controlling the areas, the children tend to paint more slowly.

Tips After the children paint the cat, they can then paint the background. Try to have the students paint the background just one color.
