(10 minutes) 5.After the cat’s face is painted, the children can pick one color to paint the background (5-10 minutes) 6.When everything is dry, use either a black oil pastel or black watercolor paint (oil pastel is better) to add whiskers (5 minutes)

Supplies You Will Need… 12” x 18” white 90# watercolor paper Black oil pastels Watercolor paint Water containers

Prep Give each child a piece of watercolor paper and oil pastel

Prep Set two containers of water per 5-6 kids and 1 brush per child.

Tips When teaching little ones to paint, give parameters. In this lesson, ask the children to paint the cat’s face first instead of just telling them to “start painting”. By controlling the areas, the children tend to paint more slowly.

Tips After the children paint the cat, they can then paint the background. Try to have the students paint the background just one color.
