International Foundation Established in 1954 – Fostering the education and exchange of information for trustees, administrators and other fund professionals Found education niche with passage of the Labor-Management Relations Act of 1947 (Taft-Hartley Act)

CEBS Passage of ERISA in 1974 influenced the CEBS program. CEBS began in 1976 Partnered with the Wharton School and later with Dalhousie University Formalized curriculum First CEBS designations awarded in 1980 CPE Requirement

Society Established in the early 1980s Non-profit educational association Provide specialized professional development and networking opportunities Controlled corporation of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans

Today Both the International Foundation and the International Society educate and serve Canada and the United States Working together to serve the entire benefits community

Membership Structure— Local Chapter CEBS graduates must join the Society in order to join a local chapter – Why? So the Society has the financial resources to offer products and services to members GBA, RPA, CMS designees and CEBS students are encouraged to join the Society or can opt for chapter affiliation only – Why? Local chapters are the Society’s—and the CEBS program’s—most valuable resources!
