WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE RAINFOREST? BY MURRAY ARMITAGE

IN THE SLIDESHOW YOU WILL FIND OUT ABOUT: What's happening to the rainforest and why is it happening What are the effects What's being done to stop deforestation Facts on Deforestation

WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE RAINFOREST & WHY? The rainforest is being destroyed for the profits they hold, weather it be crops, agricultural lands for grazing or Timber

DOES THE RAINFOREST REALLY HELP US? Plants in the rainforest are vital for medicine. Drugs like quinine, muscle relaxants, steroids and cancer drugs have all been found in the rainforest. But most importantly, people are destroying the rainforest to find if they can discover medicine for A.I.D.S, cancer medicine for different types of cancer, Diabetes, Arthritis and Alzheimer’s. The Plants and trees of the rainforest are important because they keep the worlds eco-system balance by producing oxygen and eliminating carbon Monoxide which is poisonous in large quantities to the planet.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS ON THE RAINFOREST? Deforestation has and is ruining the rainforest When trees have been knocked down, there is no scenery and the rainforest becomes nothing. Animals who live in the rainforest will eventually die because there is no habitat for them to live and there is no food for the animals to eat. Plants give us oxygen, which is vital for us to stay alive We must stop being selfish and give the rainforest back to its animals and people so it can thrive again and help us find cures for diseases and bring a balance back to the planet before it is too late

WHAT IS BEING DONE TO STOP DEFORESTATION? Charities like FSC and WWF have been founded to stop deforestation FSC was founded because of deforestation, and aims to prevent deforestation. You might see the logo on books or on boxes to show that the company has a certificate to use the timber from the rainforests and forests in Britain WWF is an animal foundation founded for animals that live in rainforests to stay safe from poachers. The foundation also saves rainforests by stopping people knocking down the rainforest and speak to country leaders over the world to stop deforestation and cruelty to wild animals. WWF Logo FSC Logo

DID YOU KNOW? Rainforests used to cover 14% of the world but due to deforestation, it is only 6% About 80% of the food we eat are from the rainforest Rainforests are being destroyed by 1.5 Acres every second 137 rainforest species are exterminated completely every day If deforestation continues, in 40 years time the rainforest will become extinct If the Amazon was a country, it would be the ninth biggest country in the world Over 20% of the worlds oxygen is produced by the Amazon 25% of the worlds cancer fighting organisms are found in the Amazon
