Contact Information Projected Outcomes Specific Plan of Action The specific plan of action for our School Improvement Plan will be as follows: 1.Implement PLCs within same subject areas 2.Make sure each PLC has a writing SMART Goal 3.Structure our late starts to make sure that teachers receive professional development as well as giving them time to meet in their PLCs 4.Late starts will take place on December 12th & 13th, February 13th and 14th, April 24th and 29th and May 8th and 9th 5.Provide professional development in the area of best practices in writing instruction 6.In Career Technical all students will complete two writing activities per quarter using complete sentences and appropriate conventions 7.PE teachers will create a writing assessment, incorporating journals/papers to evaluate writing 8.ELD students will increase their proficiency levels in writing by by one or more levels as measured by ELPA 9.The ARTS will improve students understanding of literature and vocabulary through writing journals. 10.All other subject areas will incorporate writing through daily instruction. Springfield High School is a large comprehensive high school with approximately 1380 students. SHS has 62% of it’s students on Free and Reduced Lunch, with our main feeder school having 85% Free and Reduced Lunch. It is the most diverse and has one of the highest poverty rates of any comprehensive high schools in Lane County. It’s crucial that our students graduate from high school College and Career Ready so that they can eliminate some of the barriers to future success that they face on a daily basis. Retreived October 23, 2012 from  Students will have writing journals which will not only help them write better they will be able to express their feelings on paper providing them with one more outlet.  Writing OAKS scores will increase from 57% to 85%  Shared responsibility for student success on OAKS  Collaboration will increase among staff members  Ability to write competently will have a positive impact in all the subject areas .Students self esteem will go up  Graduation rates will increase  Students will be better able to succeed in college Springfield School District received a $873, collaboration grant for the 2012/2013 school year. This grant is specific to the two comprehensive high schools in our district. The funds have to be spent within the year, therefore, we are in a unique position to we are in a unique position to be able to offer great opportunities for professional development. The second criteria in criteria in the collaboration grant is that we are able to bring back late starts so that it provides our teachers with the ability to receive the professional development within the work day. Staff members that are able and would like to attend workshops outside of the school day can also take advantage of that opportunity. The projected costs are as follows: Materials and journals $ Writing TOSA $12, Professional Development $18, FTE $23, Subs for Observations $10, Total Costs $63, Note - materials and.4 FTE are not covered under this grant. Everything has to go towards professional development and collaboration. SIP Measurement Goal: The goal that has been selected this year as part of our Student Improvement Plan is in the area of writing. Last year all of our juniors took the OAKS assessment in writing and only 57% passed. The goal is to increase the writing scores by the end of this school year to 85% as measured by the state writing assessment (OAKS); in addition all students in every grade level will engage in writing across the curriculum in order to help them meet the Essential Skills for a High School Diploma and to be College and Career Ready. Background: In previous years writing goals have not been a school wide initiative. That task of teaching students how to write has traditionally been left up to the Language Arts Teachers. However, as a staff we have determined that all of us need to take an active role in this in order for our students to be successful. This year it’s imperative that we focus on writing because any senior that cannot pass the OAKS writing assessment will not be able to graduate with a traditional diploma. As we know the educational landscape has changed. Students must be able to write in order to be successful in the 21st Century.
