Introductory / Background Questions Assignment: Please read through the entire letter at least once, in as few “sittings” as possible- preferably just one. 1.Who is the author of the epistle? God is the author; Paul is probably the writer. 2.To whom is it written (specifically)? Jewish Christians, probably in Jerusalem or its immediate environs. 3.When was it written? As early as AD 65 or 66, or as late as AD 69 or 70; probably between AD

Introductory / Background Questions 4.For what purpose was it written? To exhort (13:22) and encourage (6:18) these Hebrew Christians not to fall away (3:12) or shrink back to destruction (10:39) by showing the superiority of Jesus Christ and Christianity over every past or future religion. 5.What is the epistle’s greatest lesson for Gentile Christians like us? A lack of insight into or appreciation for (5:11-14) the awesome grandeur of Christ and Christianity can lead to apostasy (6:1-8) and loss of the rest intended (4:1).
