Linking Manitobans with the Developing World Citizenship as a Core Concept in Social Studies - provides learning focus at all grades - prepares students to participate in public engagement - enhances students’ understanding of citizenship - prepares students to be active participants in their communities, locally, nationally and globally The concept of citizenship must be considered in the context of: - democracy, human rights and public debate Students explore citizenship in four areas: - active democratic citizenship in Canada - Canadian citizenship for the future - citizenship in the global context - environmental citizenship

What is social justice? “the notion that society should be organized in a way that allows equal opportunity for all its members” (Cdn. The Marquis Project Background Established in 1979 Non-profit and non-governmental (NGO) organization Registered charitable status Supported by Manitoba Education Linking Manitobans with the Developing World Mission Statement To help educate Manitobans as to the nature of economic, political and social issues involved at both the local and global levels. To seek to participate actively in sustainable development projects and partnerships aimed at improving the quality of life in small, rural communities in developing countries
