CS 330 Project Presentation Asli Dolucan Senior, Fall 2001 Wells College

Project Goals Design and develop a web site for Prof. David Reis, the Prof. of Religion- the Department of Religion at Wells College. He has a web site running based on html coding. He has used Netscape Navigator editor to create his web site. My goal is to make his current website more user- friendly and user-interactive by adding new features to his site such as Javascript codes, surveys, and frames as well as compressed audio and video files by using Studio DV software.

Description-Project overview In conjunction with The Pluralism Project at Harvard University, the Wells College Pluralism Project seeks to map the religious landscape of Central New York.

Cont. First, students in Wells College’s "Introduction to World Religions" class will visit various religious sites, attend services, and interview community members. Videotapes, pictures, and interviews will then be formatted to CD-ROM for student presentations. The second phase will focus on creating a web site to display this research. The religious communities listed below represent current student interests. The second phase will focus on creating a web site to display this research. The religious communities listed below represent current student interests.

1.1 Improvements and Future possible Additions to the Project: David Reis has already accomplished a great deal for someone who has no educational background in computer programming and coding. As can be seen below, his current website is based on html coding done by the help of html editors.

. Users:. After the project is done it will be put on the virtual world a.k.a. the Internet. Anyone who is interested in finding information on “Pluralism Project” can view the website. the webmaster for this site will be me consulting the findings and new features with Prof. David Reis.

Data: Videotapes, pictures, and interviews are already formatted to CD-ROM for students in Studio DV software which are compressed into real audio and video files.

Implementation Environment- Hardware&Software This project will use Intel Pentium II (an IBM PC). Windows environment will be used and in order to compress the videotapes into audio files (in Real Player and Quick viewer for Macintosh) Studio DV software will be used. Javascript coded website and frames will make the project user–friendly and pleasant looking.

Applicable Technologies: 2.1. Studio DV Studio DV is one of those rare tools that's simple enough for beginners yet engaging and deep enough for advanced users 2.2 Real Player is used to compress audio files into viewable applications in the Internet environment.Real Audio is a server-based streaming audio solution with a special emphasis on optimizing audio for 14.4 and 28.8 connections.

Implementation cont. MPEG is actually a family of multimedia standards created by the Moving Picture Experts Group. It supports 3 types of information:video, audio, and streaming. Javascript was also used to type a stream of text on the toolbar which will be shown soon!

Implementation--Frames Frames are a method of dividing the browser window into smaller sub- windows, each displaying a different HTML document. Lets now see the project itself!
