CELL DIVISION – STOP MOTION PROJECT PROJECT DUE MONDAY MAY 5TH

PROJECT DETAILS AND OBJECTIVE Stop-motion (aka stop-action) is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Objectives: Study the behavior of chromosomes during mitosis. To investigate the process and phases of mitosis

MATERIALS Materials: You can use materials that you bring to class. I will have various items to represent the cell parts such as-buttons, pipe cleaners, straws, noodles, yarn, clay/Play-Doh, paper clips, felt, white boards/markers.

PROCEDURE Using your chosen materials, construct a model of a cell for each stage of the cell cycle. Take a minimum of 24 pictures of the different stages of the cycle. Make very small changes to transition from phase to phase (5-6 pictures between each phase change). Label the stages and important parts of the cell as you are taking your pictures. Upload the pictures to a software program to create your Stop-motion video. Day 1: Introduction day and Planning day Day 2 (Half Day): Being setting up and taking pictures Day 3: Continue taking pictures Day 4: Finish up and turn in the project for a grade

The following phases and labels will be required on your pictures and will need to stay up throughout the stage (as appropriate): 1. Interphase 2. Prophase 3. Metaphase 4. Anaphase 5. Telophase 6. Cytokinesis 7. Centromere 8. Nuclear membrane 9. Cell membrane 10. Chromosomes 11. Spindle fibers PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
