Picture of the Day: Reading Pictures “Closely” Jen Jones of “Hello Literacy” blog

“Art- inferences are like works of art (…we interpret for meaning)” http://www.helloliteracy.com/search?q=picture+of+the+day http://www.slideshare.net/fullscreen/hellojenjones/picture-of-the-day-handouts/1 Reading pictures is like reading real life. It involves making judgements and drawing conclusions. We do this all day long… Using pictures is research based. We think in pictures and dream in pictures too. Post language frames at the front of the room. She has this as a free download on TPT. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/FreeDownload/Critical-Thinking-Language-Sentence-Frames- Say-What-Aligned-to-Common-Core Monday –Thursday with group to learn and practice Friday – test Builds vocabulary “Art- inferences are like works of art (…we interpret for meaning)”

It transfers to books too! It gets them thinking about observations and inferences. It invites conversations on the differences between predictions and inferences.
