Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Lesson Overview Objectives Develop a understanding of the basic features of Adobe Photoshop including: Selection Tools – Rectangular Marquee Tool Naming Layers Merging layers Outcomes Task 1Create 2 split images 1.Use the Ronaldo Example – either 2/3 images 2.Create you own split image by using celebrities Task 2Pupils will print one their split images.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 1 – Opening Images 1.Open the two/three images that you would like to split in Adobe Photoshop. 2.Open a new file: 1.Set the canvas to: 1.Width 600 Pixels 2.Height 400 Pixels 3.Save your new Photoshop file as Ronaldo Split Image

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 2 – Selecting Image 1.Using the Rectangular Marquee create a selection around both pictures and copy them into the Ronaldo Split Image.PSD file. 2.Using the line tool draw two even lines across the images. This will help you split the images. 3.Rename the layers – e.g. 1.Red1 2.Blue1 Selections have been copied into Ronaldo Split Image.PSD file.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 3 – Duplicating Layers 1.You have to duplicate each layer so you three copies. 2.To duplicate a layer you have to Right click and then select Duplicate layer 3.You need to use appropriate names for your layers. 1.Red1 2.Red2 3.Red3 Layer has been called Red3

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 3 – Creating the splits P1 1.Hide all the layers apart from the lines and background. 2.Select Red1 Layer and using the Rectangular Marquee tool select the part of the image that you would like to delete. 3.Once highlighted you need to press delete on your keyboard to delete the selection. 4.Press Deselect after you have deleted. Layers have been hidden

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 3 – Creating the splits P2 1.Make sure you select the correct layer. 2.Hide the other layers and use the lines as a guide. 3.Select the part of the image you wish to delete and then press delete. 4.You now should have three layers.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 4 – Merging Layers 1.Only show the Red1 Layer 2.Open the Frames.JPG and then copy and paste the frame into your Ronaldo Split Image.PSD file. Rename the layer as Red1Frame. 3.Resize (CTRL & T) the frame so it fits around the Red1 spilt image. 4.Duplicate the Frames so it can be used for the other spilt images. 5.Select the Red1 & Red1Frame layers and merge the layers by right clicking and selecting Merge Layers. The frame has been resized to fit the image 1 2 3

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 4 – Merging Layers P2 1.Resize the duplicated frames and merge with the Red2 and Red3 Split images. 2.Repeat the same process with the blue image (Blue1). 1.Duplicate Blue1 image so you have Blue2 and Blue3. 2.Hide the layers you are not working with and create the splits – refer to Task 3. 3.Copy and paste the frames (Resize) and then merge the layers to the split images. You should have 7 layers now

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Task 5 – Moving the Layers 1.Delete the lines which were used as guides. 2.Select the layers and move them into place. 3.You can press CTRL & T to rotate the layers. If you are feeling confidant then you try using three different images.
