 In this pouch are the Fraudulent Counselors  Here the sinners are punished by having their souls be in flames.  The sinners are forced to burn in the flames their souls are put in for eternity without ever being able to see God.

 The only new character in this canto is Guido da Montefeltro, he was placed on hell because he gave Pope Boniface VIII fraudulent advice.  He says he reluctantly gave advice to the pope only because he said the pope would absolve him of the sin.

 After Guido’s death St. Francis of Assisi attempted to save his soul.  But St. Francis could not do to a black cherubim; who told him to leave Guido’s soul here where it belongs.  St. Francis could do nothing and Guido was sent to be judged and later to the eighth circle of hell.

 Dante meets Guido da Montefeltro while his soul is in the flame.  He tells of how he gave Pope Boniface advice and was given-but not useful-absolution from his sin.  Then he tells of how St. Francis attempted to save his soul but without avail.  All of this occurs in the eighth circle, eighth pouch in the Inferno.
