Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat Certification Industry Against Counterfeiting Certification Industry Against Counterfeiting (CIAC) The Certification Industry Against Counterfeiting was formed in March 2008 to combat the growing threat of products bearing counterfeit certification marks 11 of the world’s largest certification agencies are currently participating in CIAC CIAC has formed a partnership with INTERPOL to combat these illegal marks under Operation Overshock INTERPOL will coordinate and facilitate international enforcement initiatives and educational programs targeting transnational organized IP Crime groups Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat

Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat Certification Industry Against Counterfeiting CIAC Vision CIAC and INTERPOL committed to making our world safer. CIAC Mission The Certification Industry Anti-Counterfeiting Initiative is an international network of certification organizations committed to stopping the worldwide proliferation of products bearing counterfeit certification marks that may endanger public health and safety. Operation Overshock The strategic intention of Operation Overshock is to effectively target transnational and organized criminal enterprises that illegally manufacture, distribute and sell products bearing counterfeit certification marks. The operation will engage multiple agencies to criminally investigate and prosecute these offenders who put the health and safety of the consumer at risk. Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat Operation Overshock Operation Overshock Objectives 1. Establish an INTERPOL intelligence led transnational operational enforcement project (police, customs, certification bodies and other stakeholders such as the WCO, WIPO and Europol) 2. Implement a coordinated anti-counterfeiting intervention strategy to facilitate the seizure, investigation and criminal prosecution of transnational and organized criminal enterprises that deal in products bearing counterfeit certification marks 3. Identify counterfeiting regions of concern, form strategic partnerships and secure the cooperation of a minimum of seven different enforcement agencies to deploy intervention actions in these regions Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat

Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat Operation Overshock Operation Overshock Objectives 4. Provide relevant anti-counterfeiting training to enforcement agencies in the identified regions 5. Populate and utilize the INTERPOL Database on International Intellectual Property Crime (DIIP) to as a pilot project to support Operation Overshock 6. Identify other counterfeiting areas of concern such as trade fairs and work in partnership to develop and implement appropriate actions to deal with these issues Working in Partnership Against a Common Threat
