Agenda: 1.AP Scoring Guide: review and make observations. 2.“Flame-Heart” Sample Essays: examine and score. 3.Homework: Score your own essay and write a brief narrative regarding why you scored your essay as such.

AP Scoring Guide: In order to DOMINATE the AP exam, we must first identify what the test wants of us. 1.Read the AP Scoring Guide - annotate it. 2.Answer the following questions: A. What characteristics of good writing are most important to scoring well on the AP exam? B. What aspects of writing do not seem to be as important? C. What questions do you have?

“Flame-Heart” Sample Essays: Read the two essays provided. Using the AP scoring guide, identify a score for each essay and explain why you scored each essay as you did.

Homework: 1.Read your own essay after having read the score guide and sample essays. 2.Score your essay using the AP score guide. 3.Write a brief explanation regarding why you scored your essay as such and what you need to do to raise your essay score.
