Transitioning to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 in the Classroom June 8, 2004

© 2002 PTC Webcast Introduction PTC’s Education Program – an update on University Plus: Larry Fire, Sr. Educational Program Manager, PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire in the Classroom Gary Lamit, Instructor at De Anza College and author of many Pro/ENGINEER textbooks The Top 10 Enhancements of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 Michael Campbell, VP Product Management, PTC Agenda

© 2002 PTC PTC University Plus  Provides as many seats of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire for campus-wide use, and over 50 integrated applications, including Pro/MECHANICA, Behavioral Modeling and Peer-to- Peer Collaboration, to name a few  Provides free professor training at any of PTC’s North American training facilities  Includes free tutorials and classroom materials, technical support by PTC and software upgrades (Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 was shipped to University Plus customers at the end of April) All of this and more for a low annual membership fee of $2,500  Program is expanding worldwide o 1,400 university participants worldwide o 80,000 engineering students graduate with Pro/ENGINEER experience each year o 450 universities in the United States are using Pro/ENGINEER in the classroom, including:  42 of the top 50 mechanical engineering programs in the US (ranked by U.S. News & World Report)

© 2002 PTC Gary Lamit, De Anza College Background Presently an Instructor at De Anza College Has been teaching Pro/ENGINEER for 10 years, from 1994–present Has been teaching CAD for 20 years Has been teaching drafting and engineering graphics at the college level for 30 years Has written 25 drafting and engineering books – five on Pro/ENGINEER specifically and one on CADD Has just written a new book called Introduction to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 (SDC Publications) Gary can be reached at or through his website:

© 2002 PTC Upgrading to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 in the Classroom Pro/ENGINEER and College Upgrading is very important and actually makes your teaching job easier, not harder From Pro/ENGINEER 2000i2 – Pro/ENGINEER 2001 – Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire – Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 Each change simplified teaching for me Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire is easier to use Direct Modeling has streamlined the speed of learning and use for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Chapters I rewrote in each version of the textbook have become shorter Because of simplified and faster modeling techniques. (Patterns - axis, no datum on fly required, direction option) Copy, Paste, and Paste Special, etc. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 reduces modeling time and increases ease of teaching

© 2002 PTC Tools used in the Classroom at De Anza College Training Materials Textbook We use my textbooks – Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire and Introduction to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0, as the basic training aids CADTRAIN (the basic educational package costs $700) Used to assist and deepen student's knowledge We use CADTRAIN for all advanced design/engineering classes: Pro/SURFACE, Pro/MECHANICA, Pro/NC, Pro/SHEETMETAL, as well as our basic Pro/ENGINEER part design, assembly, and drawing classes This is a great product for learning Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire PTC Training Bundle Has page tutorials on almost all modules and can be downloaded. We integrate them into all advanced classes at De Anza College

© 2002 PTC Engineering Student Employment De Anza College helps its alumni update their job skills, even after they’ve moved on to jobs after graduation. Three versions of Pro/ENGINEER are kept on their computers, along with CADTRAIN materials for each, so that students who are interested in updating their skills can come back to De Anza and do just that. Students can keep current with the latest version of the software, or take a look at older versions, depending on what their company is using. Job opportunities have increased steadily in the last 6 months. Still seeing more job opportunities for students with Pro/ENGINEER experience than in any other system. Students with Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire experience on their resumes are more marketable for employment.
