STRATEGY “IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE OR BRAIN SURGERY” How to make sense of a personal topic! Bill Tschirhart – True North Coaching

Strategy – is playing the right shots. Tactics – is playing those shots right. STRATEGY & TACTICS

FOUR STEPS TO A SOUND STRATEGIC PLAN  Discover your team’s strategic DNA  Formulate a game plan.  Formulate an end plan.  Call the shot that fits steps 1-3!

YOUR TEAM’S STRATEGIC DNA There are only three types of teams from a strategic perspective! OFFENSE FIRST DEFENSE FIRST BLENDED ATTACK

DOES YOUR TEAM HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

OFFENSE FIRST DESIRE / NEED FINESSE SHOTSRESILIENCE

DEFENSE FIRST DESIRE / NEED UP WEIGHT SHOTS PATIENCE

BLENDED ATTACK DESIRE/NEED ALL THE SHOTS EXCELLENT TEAM DYNAMICS

GAME PLAN The “general” approach that your team will employ for the game to be played. PURSUE PROTECT PROBE

END PLAN The “specific” way in which your team will play the next end. GREEN RED YELLOW

The shots you select must be consistent with your team’s strategic DNA, the game plan you have chosen and the plan selected for the next end!

Each style of play has its risks. An offense first style risks negative outcomes. A defense first style risks missing offensive opportunities. A blended attack risks a miscalculation of the odds or difficulties with team dynamics. Choose your style wisely!

By the way, there’s no strategy that works if you get out-curled! It’s all about making curling shots!
