S3 – Physical Education Activities

Types of Activity Individual/team Individual – something you play on your own. Athletics, gymnastics, singles badminton Team – something you play with one or more people. Badminton doubles, football, basketball

Competitive/Non-competitive Competitive – something you do to win to beat something Non – competitive – Something you do for fun, friends, fitness.

Directly competitive/Indirectly competitive Directly competitive – you have to react to your opponent. Badminton – you have to move to return the shuttle Indirectly competitive – you do your own skill at your own time. High Jump – your performance not influenced by your opponents.

Tactics A tactic is a plan that you decide before you play. It could be a formation like in football 3:5:2 or a tactic you use in the game eg football – using wingers. You may decide to change formations due to different situations during the game.

Why do we need tactics? You have tactics so that everyone has role/position You have tactics so everyone has a job they need do – a responsibility You have tactics so everyone knows what to do You have roles in defence and in attack!!

How you decide? Your strengths Your weaknesses The players you have The weather The size of the park

In your jotters Write about a tactic you have played in a game. Say why this tactic was chosen. Give at least 3 reasons. Say what your responsibility was in both attack and defence? You were losing in the last ten minutes say how you changed your tactic to improve your chance of winning.
