How to Play Soccer BY: MARIE LAHM CER #8 EVALUATE

Soccer  Objective of game is to score as many goals as possible  In order to score a goal, the player needs to get the ball into the net at the end of the field bypassing the goalkeeper.  Soccer is a game played with your feet.  The goalkeeper is the only player on the field who is allowed to handle the ball with their hands

Soccer  there are two teams of eleven players on the field; with three substitutes on the sidelines ready to take the field at any give moment  Each team carries up to three substitutions, and the coach decides when to change them out and give players on the field a break  there are two halves and each half is forty-five minutes long, with a ten minute break between halves.  Most games are won by scores of 2-1, or 4-3.

Soccer Positions  strikers, which consists of two players whose objective is to create opportunities to dominate the ball and score the goals.  There are two center midfielders, one on the left side of the field and one on the right side of the field  The midfielders support the offense when their team is on the attack and they play defense when the opposing team is on the attack  There are four defenders on the field. This is the last line of defense that the opposing team needs to get past before they encounter the goalkeeper.  Only one goalkeeper on the field at any given time. The job of the goalkeeper is to prevent the ball of the opposing team from reaching the back of the net

Soccer  The official, or referee as he/she is called, determines fouls, penalties, and whether a goal has been scored.  linesmen on each side of the field, who assist the referees in the making of these determinations . A foul occurs when a player makes contact with an opposing player instead of the ball.  If a referee determines that there was a foul, he then has the option of issuing a yellow or red card.  A yellow card is a warning  If the same player incurs an additional foul, a red card will be issued and the player will have to leave the field immediately.

Soccer Penalties  There is always a consequence for a foul play, regardless of whether or not a yellow/red card is issued.  The opposing team is rewarded with a free kick.  Also, if a foul has been committed in the penalty box, which is the rectangular box in front of the goal, than a penalty kick is awarded.  The ball is placed on the penalty box and a member from the offense is allowed a direct shot on the goalkeeper.  defense is not able to help the goalkeeper when a penalty shot is given

Soccer Rules  Offsides happens when an offensive player is ahead of the defense when a play is in motion. When the referee calls offsides, a member of the defense is then awarded a free kick.  Throw ins-if a ball goes out of bounds on the sidelines, the teammate who throws the ball back into play will be dependent upon who the last person that made contact with the ball. The player on the opposing team who was the last person to make contact receives the throw in
