In order to make it meaningful, scholars often look at only a piece of history, as if looking through a telescope at a particular set of stars instead of the whole universe. We call this viewing history through a Lens. Three very useful lenses to help us focus on history are to look at the Political, Economic and Social aspects of history individually. The Essay Test! April 10th The test for this unit will be an In Class Essay Test. You will evaluate how successful the two great leaders of Communist China, Mao and Deng, were at giving the Chinese peasants what they wanted. We will be investigating the major events that occurred under the rule of these men and filling out a set of charts about their successes and failures. You may use these charts on the test. The more specific information you have, the better you will do on this test. Look for details, statistics, and other specific information.

What you will be looking for… Political Philosophy- Were they a pure communist, socialist, capitalist? Did they support democracy or dictatorship? What does their government look like? Who makes the laws? Who makes the rules? Actions taken to improve the lives of Peasants Successful Policies Failed policies Now have your pair find another pair to work with and get a packet!
