19 Description of Task: Day One Inform students that today they will work collaboratively to learn and present information related to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in relation to U.S. veterans. The teacher will establish six groups and students may choose their assignment group for participation; keep in mind that groups must remain equal in number. 20 minutes Groups I and II will be assigned the task of reading excerpts from chapter two “The Brotherhood” from The Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Forever a Soldier: Unforgettable Stories of Wartime Service ( Groups III and IV will use the URL above and select and view a video clip from one of the interviews. The clip should be no longer than ten minutes. Groups V and VI will conduct responsible internet research regarding PTSD in post-war veterans. 30 minutes Groups with common assignments will collaborate and create a visual explaining what they have just learned. 40 minutes Groups will present the information represented on their chart paper, allowing time for questions. Prior to the presentations, the teacher will explain to students that the information presented will be their only exposure to the information; therefore, they should make sure they understand. Visuals will remain posted for day two task. Description of Task: Day Two Teacher announces the following: You have just returned from Afghanistan. So far things for you are going well; however, you have just learned that one of your fellow troop members is suffering from PTSD and refusing to seek help. Your task is to use the information from the visuals to write a letter or to persuade him/her to seek help and offer encouragement.
