Intro to Dreamweaver Webmaster 1 – Mrs. Sanchez

Agenda Daily Objective Starting the Program Setting up a site in Dreamweaver Adding a page Home page naming (review) WYSIWYG and Code View Setting the page properties Basic text formatting Daily review

Today’s objectives By the end of class today, you’ll be able to: start the Macromedia Dreamweaver program and add a site Add a new page to your site Describe WHY the first page in a site must be called index.html Set the basic page properties Use basic text formatting features

Starting the Program Start All Programs Macromedia Dreamweaver 8

Setting Up a Site in Dreamweaver Follow Mrs. Sanchez’s example on screen Need more help? Review the video on “setting up a site” in the Dreamweaver section on our class home page.

Adding a page to your site First, click on the site name to select it. It will be highlighted.

Next Steps Then, you have several options to add a new file. I like to right click and select “new file”

Naming the new file You’ll be able to give the file a new name here. If you don’t change the name, it stays as “untitled.html”. BEWARE! Make sure that you keep the.html at the end of the file name.

Question (discuss your answer with your partner) Since this will be the home page of our site, what should we name it? WHY should we give it this name?

Home Page File Names – Compare Your Answer The home page of any web site should be index.html That’s because this page will come up automatically when you enter a web address. For example, when you go to “sanchez.tcsd.org”, the page named index.html automatically appears If I didn’t name my first page index.html, you’d have to type in the address AND the file name, like: Sanchez.tcsd.org/mrssanchez.html

Basic Formatting Text formatting Using the Properties panel Page Properties (menu option)

Formatting some page properties Do you think Dreamweaver 8 is a WYSIWYG or code-based web page editor? Does Dreamweaver have any similarities with other programs and methods we’ve used to create web pages so far this year? Discuss with your partner

Want to review site setup? Go to our class home page and look for the site setup review movie
