What are Retail Clinics? Treat a limited range of common ailments, and charge a set fee for service Located in pharmacies, grocery stores or other retail environments Patients seen by a nurse practitioner or physician ’ s assistant, with physician oversight Offer extended office hours, real time registration, and minimal wait times

SmartCare Centers –Fifteen(15) locations in Colorado –Open since January, 2007 –400 – 550 sq. ft. in size

Operation –Open 7 Days Per Week 10 – 12 Hours Per Day –One Nurse Practitioner –< 30 Minutes –$50 - $60

What are Convenient Care Clinics NOT? CCCs are NOT full-service medical facilities. They provide a limited range of services. CCCs are NOT resources for ongoing primary care. They provide episodic care only, and patients who need follow-up care are referred to primary care providers. Nationally, approximately 30% of CCC patients say they do not have a primary care provider that they usually go to for healthcare. In these cases, clinic staff connect patients with local primary care providers and encourage patients to develop a relationship with a healthcare home.

Summary Convenient Care is an emerging segment of the U.S. health care industry whose rapid growth is being fueled by growing problems with access and affordability. Projections suggest that there will be Convenient Care Clinics in the United States by the end of The CCC Business model is Affordable, Accessible, Efficient, Basic care. CCCs provide an entry point into the healthcare system for patients who lack a healthcare home or who have difficulty accessing traditional healthcare providers. CCCs are NOT full-service medical facilities, and they are NOT resources for ongoing primary care.
