COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: A CONVERSATION

Community Engagement is not an exercise in public relations It is a collaborative process aimed at reaching a shared understanding of preferred solutions to identified key community needs and priorities

What Is: In 2007, the RVS Board of Trustees acted on their belief that school/community partnerships are important. Policy allows schools and school jurisdiction to be accessible to the public Policy allows schools and school jurisdiction to be open and transparent Policy allows schools and school jurisdiction to have input into decision making Guidelines are developed and speak to the public engagement model

Why? As a result of Inspiring Education (encouraged school boards to do more community engagement) RVS is reviewing its model RVS had guidelines and is currently developing a policy around this topic This is a great time to go to stakeholders for input

What are we doing? Blogs Videos Media Releases Fact Sheets Reports Website Advertisements Open Public Meetings Focus Groups On-line surveys Facebook/Twitter Student Engagement- DISCERN/Leadership Workshops Community Engagements Committees Community Boards Publications

What tools do you use? Why?

Do you have any tools to add?
