What do I do ?

We had a sound grounding in Working in an integrated curriculum Integrating tools into learning Using HOTs to raise thinking levels Middle School theory and pedagogy Impacted by Ulearn and especially our Auckland Regional ICTPD meetings

What we knew then the importance of focusing on a curriculum which applied to students current and future lives shift was happening. The leverage of web2 technologies was overwhelming.

The importance of the vision and principles in the New Zealand Curriculum document Confident Connected Actively involved Lifelong learners Inclusion Community engagement Learning to learn What we knew then

We also knew that.. web2 environments are directly attached to the key competencies Thinking Using language symbols and texts Managing self Relating to others What we knew then

there needs to be a 24/7 access to the tools to have a real impact on learning Acot2 Six Design Principles of the 21 st Century High School we weren’t going to find resources that were current enough in our school classrooms or library to deliver authentic social inquiry

And we knew that… success criteria to measure success in a web 2 learning environment was not going to be a skills checklist National Educational Technology Standards ( NETS-S) and performance indicators What we knew then

knowledge reproduced on computers was not going to develop the competencies 21 st century learners need. for these skills to occur we had to let our learners create new knowledge from old Catching the Knowledge Wave : The knowledge society and the future of education Jane Gilbert NZCER Press What we knew then

Sharing of stories about changes in teachers pedagogy Drawing the threads together

The Traditional teacher Standard classroom practice The shift from traditional teaching ICT classroom practice  Students at desks  Quantity of work limited  Quality of work laboured  Imagination directed Fluid movement  Work output increased  Impatient to start work  Willingness to explore

Change is no longer coming it’s here now… So where do you stand?

Trust yourself We all make mistakes But we all learn from our mistakes

Remember your target Aim for your target Student engagement is the target

The Possibilities The Benefits The Future

 $ ? Working with computers

Before movement can happen you need to set the tone. Have a plan Include a base of skills Communicate your expectations Remember the universe is enormous

They are the digital citizens The visual impact is stimulating They process information differently They are the next generation of creators
