Clinical Cases Study

Case 1 KB is a 45-year-old male patient with mild low back pain two months ago due to falling; however, there was no evidence of a fracture or disc damage with this trauma. The objective exam reveals spasms of the lumbar paravertebral muscles, restriction of active forward- bending ROM, and restriction of side bending bilaterally

Case 2 AM is an l8-year-old female student. She sustained a complete rupture of her left Achilles tendon 6 weeks ago while playing basketball, and the tendon was surgically repaired two weeks later. Her leg was in a cast which was removed yesterday. The objective exam reveals mild swelling, tenderness, and redness in the area of the surgical repair, restricted dorsiflexion ROM and atrophy of the calf muscles on the left leg.

Case 3 IR is a 25-year-old female with psoriasis. She has plaques covering areas on the dorsal aspects of both elbows and covering areas on the anterior aspects of both knees. This patient presents with impairments of skin integrity and cosmosis as well as abnormal, uncomfortable sensation o f itching. The poor cosmesis has resulted in her always wearing clothing that covers her elbows and knees.

Case 4 MS is a 50-year-old female. She has been diagnosed with cervical spondylosis and has been referred to physical therapy. She complains of cervical pain and muscle spasm. The objective exam reveals restricted cervical active and passive range of motion.

Case 5 TR is a 60-year-old male, 3 months post-open reduction and internal fixation of a right hip fracture, with placement of a plate and screws. He complains dull pain in the right anteromedial hip and shortening of right anteromedial hip capsule, resulting in limited ambulation and inability to work.

Case 6 BD is a 72-year-old female with a 10-year history of diabetes mellitus and ulcer on her lateral right ankle caused by arterial insufficiency since 6 months. BD has poor arterial circulation in her distal lower extremities, but her physician has determined that she is not a candidate for lower extremity bypass surgery. Sensation is impaired distal to the patient's knees and is intact proximal to the knees.

Case 7 JG is an 80-year-old female with 10 cm² infected pressure ulcer over her left greater trochanter. She is bedridden and completely dependent onto others for feeding and bed mobility as the result of three strokes over the past 5 years.
