Tarpey ACES After School Co-curricular & Enrichment Program

What is ACES? A grant funded after school program that has three parts. –Intervention/Enrichment –Recreation –Academics (A chance to receive help on homework assignments in a structured environment.)

Academics 3:00-4:00 Immediately following snack, students move into their ACES class room for intervention. The intervention focus is math for each grade level. Tarpey experienced a large amount of growth last year in this area on our CST due in part to our math intervention last year! Tarpey teachers relay their intervention needs to ACES so that we can support the class room teachers.

Recreation 4:00-4:30 M/T/TH Directed Activities include but are not limited to: –Kickball –Soccer –Mushball –Basketball

More Academics 4:30-6:00 M/T/W/TH Students will have time each day to work on assignments given to them by their class room teachers. ACES staff is here to answer questions and explain work to the students. –Homework –Accelerated Reader (Point amounts are determined by grade level.) –Ticket to Read

Enrichment This year we have started something new: WEDNESDAY CLUBS! Each of our teaching fellows has picked an area of interest. Students pick a club to attend for six weeks. Art Drama Computer Skills Science Foreign Language

Attendance If students are at school, then they are expected to attend ACES that day. Attendance is taken daily and Regular attendance- children who have 3 unexcused absences in a row will be dropped. Excused absences are doctor’s appointments, illness, or other mandatory appointments. Please see the site director for clarification is needed. Please provide a signed note to the director when your child is absent. This includes leaving ACES early for appointments. A student may attend only when they attend school. If your child is sent home ill, please ask the office staff to let us know

Student Pick-up Tarpey ACES does not allow students to walk home alone from program. All students must be signed out by someone age 16 and older!! Students may only be signed out by adults listed on the registration form. All students must be picked up 6pm- Late pick-up occurring 3 times may result in a child being removed from the program.

Discipline Participation in the ACES program is a privilege as stated in the application and as such behavior problems in school or ACES are not tolerated. Students issued warnings for poor behavior choices will fill out a “Spartan Refocus” form to explain what happened. Parents will be given a report the day of the behavior. Continued disruptive behavior by children toward other students or ACES staff is reason for dismissal.

Parental support The TarpeyAces staff is committed and qualified to work with your child. You are an important partner in you child’s education and our program’s success. We appreciate any comments/feedback you would like to share.
