To get an Excellence.. The presentation must demonstrate that you can develop, sustain, integrate, and structure ideas effectively, using appropriate oral language features in a crafter and controlled manner to command attention.

This means that… You make connections between ideas linking to your research You can build on ideas by adding comments, explanations, details or examples (this is in your research) You develop and sustain ideas in a structure so that the effect is insightful and/or original (this is in your research) You build on ideas by adding comments, explanations, details or examples (this is in your research) You craft your presentation so that there is a clear sense of organisation You deliberately use oral language features appropriate to the selected audience and purpose

This could include… Oral language E.g. rhetorical questions, alliteration Body language E.g. eye contact, stance, gesture, facial expression Voice E.g. tone, volume, pace, stress

You must be able to sustain the confident and articulate use of oral language features to create meaning, effect, and audience

Constructing your Seminar How will I introduce my presentation? How closely will I refer to my research? How will I organise my presentation? How can I incorporate my own views or reactions? How has my research into this topic changed, challenged, or expanded my views? How will I conclude my presentation? What message do I want to leave my audience?

Presenting your research Use appropriate oral language features. Show a clear sense of organisation. Present ideas that are developed with detailed explanations and evidence. Show how the ideas are clearly linked to the issue. Ensure that the overall effect of both ideas and structure is compelling and integrated.

Final Tips Prepare well. Rehearse your presentation. Know all your quotes etc. so they sound fluent in your presentation Open strong and close with something memorable If you make a mistake keep going, you are the only person who knows it was a mistake Don’t talk too fast or too slow Build tension wherever possible by using pauses, volume changes & gestures. Relate your points to your audience if possible Smile
