Romania is a country in southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Ukraine and Moldavia in the northeast, Hungary in the west, Serbia and Bulgaria to the south along the Danube River. Romania has a stretch of sea coast on the Black Sea and the eastern and southern Carpathian mountains run through its centre. Romania's geographical diversity has led to an accompanying diversity of flora and fauna. There are many protected areas in Romania such as Danube Delta Reserve Biosphere, Retezat National Park and Rodna National Park. Owing to its distance from the open sea, Romania has a moderate continental climate.
