A hard, brittle substance, typically transparent or translucent, made by fusing sand with soda and lime.

3500 BCE in Mesopotamia. The term glass developed in the late Roman Empire GLESUM a Germanic word for a transparent substance

Solid and hard material. Fragile and easily breakable into sharp pieces. Transparent to visible light. Glass is 100% recyclable and one of the safest packaging materials due to its composition and properties.

Commercial glass or Soda-lime glass Common and less expensive. Use in flat glass in windows. Easily cleaned.

Lead glass In high amounts it lowers the melting point and decreases the hardness giving a soft surface. High refractive index giving high brilliance glass. In moderate amounts lead increases durability.

Glass is used for architecture application, illumination, electrical transmission, instruments for scientific research, optical instruments, domestic tools and even textiles. Glass does not deteriorate, corrode, stain or fade and therefore is one of the safest packaging materials.

American architect. He studied philology and in 1940 began studying architecture at Harvard where he was educated by Walter Gropius. He led the architecture section of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where he devoted exhibitions to architects like Mies van der Rohe. He defended the building as enclosed space whose ideal was to cover the curtain wall (glass), to enclose within it the pure volume, rejecting the ornamental additions. Cleveland, 1906

Connecticut, 1949 Designed by Philip Johnson as his own residence and is a masterpiece in the use of glass. It was an important and influential project for Johnson and for modern architecture. The building is an essay in minimal structure, geometry, proportion, and the effects of transparency and reflection. The house is an example of one of the earliest uses of industrial materials like glass and steel in home design.
