FOCUS INITIATIVES for the development and improvement of the use of ENERGY in RURAL AREAS

Thematic focus What? Innovation awareness raising on energy using knowledge economy Where? In rural areas of the Valencia Region (Inland zone!!) To Whom? Citizens, scholars, housewives, agriculture, micro/SMEs, majors Why? All innovations in technology have to be known in rural areas to be implemented in their daily environment, to augment energy sustainability in rural areas Through which channel? Local Development Agents network How? Inform about possible alternatives for production and best use of energy (renewables, energy efficiency, good practices, etc.)

Why this focus? Because rural areas in the inland are less developed Possibilities to create new jobs The renewable energy sector is not growing so fast, but… …renewables and energy efficiency are the future! EU Policies:Kioto Protocol, Lisbon Strategy, etc. – 20% reduction CO2 emissions, 20% Increase efficiency, 20% renewables Possibility to get funds to develop this initiatives in rural areas Transferibility to other regions of the Knowing Project and EU

How do we contribute to new Policies We are dealing with rural areas in the Valencia Region which were not priorities in current policies of energy production and efficiency. In the capitalization seminar we will gather: Minister of Industry Minister of Agriculture and Environment Minister of civil works Valencia Energy Agency (AVEN) Technical Institute of Energy (ITE) Energy Departments of University Business asociation of Energy Institute of PYMES (IMPIVA) etc. The results will be transmited in order to be implemented in rural areas Association of Municipalities (Mancomunidades) Municipalities (Majors, councillors) Local Development Agens Others…
