ARIN Update Marc Crandall ARIN Advisory Council

Policy Discussions Last Call – Equitable IPv4 Run-Out When ARIN gets its last /8, instead of giving ISPs a 12-month supply of address space, they will get a 3-month supply.

Policy Discussions Recommended for adoption, all IPv6 related policies – Community Networks IPv6 Assignments /48s for community networks – Open Access To IPv6 Removal of the requirement to route the single prefix – IPv6 Multiple Discrete Networks Address space multiple discrete networks

Policy Discussions Recommended for adoption – Global IANA to RIR Policies IPv4 ASN Revised version of the global IPv4 policy. RIRs may recover space and designate space for return to IANA. RIRs may request 32 and 16-bit ASNs for one more year.

Policy Discussions New proposals – Customer Confidentiality Hides certain customer contact information – Waiting List for Unmet IPv4 Requests A waiting list for IPv4 following depletion – /24 End User Minimum /24s for multihomed end users

Policy Discussions New proposals – Multihomed initial allocation criteria Easier IPv6 criteria for multihomed ISPs – to be revised – Reduce and Simplify IPv4 Initial Allocations Reduces minimum allocation from /20 to /23.

Policy Discussions New proposals – Change IPv6 Allocation Process Complete replacement of IPv6 allocation policy. Classfull IPv6: /56, /48, /40, /32, /24. No allocation criteria. All prefixes to come from 10 specified ranges (one single homed and one multihomed pool for each prefix). Suggests 10 USD for a /56, and 100,000 USD for a /24.
