Reading Practice at Home Goal of 30 minutes a night Ask your students questions Have them explain what they are reading Talking about what they have read is a extremely valuable skill

Read Aloud Reading aloud presents books as sources of pleasant, valuable, and exciting experiences. Reading aloud gives children background knowledge, which helps them make sense of what they see, hear, and read. Reading aloud supports the development of thinking skills as children and adults discuss books, articles, and other texts they read together. It is important for all ages.

Before Reading

What did you talk about? What is the title of the book? What does the cover tell you about the book? What do you think the book is about? What are you curious to find out about this book? What do you already know about this book? What do you want to learn? Why are you reading this book?
