Sherlock Holmes and London. Kate Kuzmina, Natasha Trubitsina.

Story of creation. Many years ago a young doctor began to write stories about a man who was a detective. Readers liked his stories because they were very interesting and the doctor decided to become a writer. The doctor was Conan Doyle wrote his and he wrote about Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle wrote his first story about Sherlock Holmes in In this story the detective med his friend Dr. Watson. Holms and Watson lived at 221B Baker Street in London.

Baker Street 221B Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson lived at Baker Street 221B, with their landlady Mrs. Hudson. They consisted of a couple of comfortable bedrooms and a single large airy sitting-room, cheerfully furnished, and illuminated by two broad windows.

It is now the home of the Sherlock Holmes Museum at the top end of Baker Street, near the Clarence Gate entrance to Regent’s Park. From here Holmes set out to visit museums and galleries, went to concerts and recitals, occasionally (and reluctantly) attended a reception. And all his journeys were by cab or train – he never used the Underground, although Baker Street Station was but a stone’s throw away.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson Dr. John Watson was sure assistant and best friend of Sherlock Holmes. He took his degree of Doctor of Medicine of the University of London. I had neither kith nor kin in England, and was therefore as free as air -- or as free as an income of eleven shillings and sixpence a day will permit a man to be. Under such circumstances I naturally gravitated to London, that great cesspool into which all the loungers and idlers of the Empire are irresistibly drained.

Who’s Who Sherlock Holmes? He said that Sherlock Holmes was certainly not a difficult man to live with: “He was quiet in his ways, and his habits were regular. It was rare for him to be up after ten at night, and he had invariably breakfasted and gone out. Sometimes he spent his day at the chemical laboratory, sometimes in the dissecting-rooms, and occasionally in long walks, which appeared to take him into the lowest portions of the city. Nothing could exceed his energy when the working fit was upon him; but now and again a reaction would seize him, and for days on end he would lie upon the sofa in the sitting-room, hardly uttering a word or moving a muscle from morning to night.”

The likeness of Sherlock Holms People which read book about Sherlock Holmes can without labor hear his likeness: “ In height he was rather over six feet, and so excessively lean that he seemed to be considerably taller. His eyes were sharp and piercing, and his thin, hawk-like nose gave his whole expression an air of alertness and decision. His chin, too, had the prominence and squareness which mark the man of determination. His hands were invariably blotted with ink and stained with chemicals, yet he was possessed of extraordinary delicacy of touch. “
