"As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy." The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume II, (August 1, 1858?), p. 532 Quotes from: Accessed 11/29/2009http://home.att.net/~rjnorton/Lincoln78.html Picture from: Accessed 11/29/2009http:// Jobs for Montana's Graduates A2L1PP1

According to Beowulf In the end each clan on the outlying coasts beyond the whale-road had to yield to him and begin to pay tribute. That was one good king. Behavior that’s admired is the path to power among people everywhere. It is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning. Jobs for Montana's Graduates A2L1PP1

What do values have to do with work? For a huge part of our life (unless we are very lucky) we spend a significant part of our waking hours at work. If we work in a job that does not reflect our values, we may feel uncomfortable or unhappy at work. Work that does not meet our values may lead us to feel discontented, like we are missing out on something. Our values can change as we grow and age… sometimes our work has to change as well. Jobs for Montana's Graduates A2L1PP1

What values may relate to work? Money Fame Help others Do you want a job that has the potential to make you rich? Do you only care that the job provides the amount of money you need? Do you want to become famous? Is it important that people know your name? Do you want a job where you provide assistance to others? Are you interested in being a nurse, social worker or teacher? Jobs for Montana's Graduates A2L1PP1

Things to remember… Values are personal, there are no right or wrong answers. Complete the work values inventory to help you determine your top 5 “Work Values.” Values may change as you grow older. What your values are today may change as your life changes. Jobs for Montana's Graduates A2L1PP1
