Ensuring student arrive and dismissal is safe & time-efficient. Changes to LCPS Transportation for School Year BRMS Student Arrival & Dismissal Plan Discussion

June 1 st ConnectEd notification Per School Board Policy 6-21, middle school students who reside within 1 mile of school are in the designated walk-zone.

Promote student safety Create an orderly, time-efficient arrival and dismissal plan

BRMS PLAN OVERVIEW Arrival Building opens at 8:00 a.m. to all students.  Bus Riders: Drop off in the front bus loop  Car Riders: Use the “Kiss N’ Go” Route  Walkers: Crossing guard Dan BRMS cross-walk/speed bump from 8:05am – 8:40am Dismissal  Walkers: (3:23 dismissal)  Use designated exit doors based on neighborhood  Remain on sidewalks  Crossing guard Dan at BRMS crosswalk/speed bump from 3:20pm-3:55pm  Bus & Car Riders: (3:29 dismissal)  Bus riders: Use designated exit door directly to bus loop  Car Riders: Use Kiss N’ Go doors (band hall doors)

For student & staff safety, car riders must adhere to the designated route.

EXPECATIONS FOR STUDENTS  Be on time for school in the morning & leave school promptly at dismissal in the afternoon  Walk to and from school in groups when possible  Remain on walking paths and out of roads  Use extreme caution when crossing intersections  Be mindful of residents’ yards and private property  Check in at home and THEN make other plans  Bring a note when transportation plans change  Bike Riders:  Lock up your bike as soon as you enter the property  Beginning October 2015 (specific date to be announced), bikes will need to be registered through your house office  Wear a helmet to and from school  Stay on walking paths at all times & be aware of walkers and other bike riders

EXPECATIONS FOR PARENTS  Discuss student expectations on the previous slide with your child.  Ensure students leave early enough to arrive at school on time.  Send a note to school if your child’s transportation plans change or contact the respective House office as early in the day as possible.  Recognize the Kiss N’ Go line’s limitations and follow established traffic patterns and expectations. (right turn only during specific times?)  Work with your HOA to ensure clean walkways during inclement weather.  Consider supporting being present in the crosswalks to help students safely cross intersections. (Note: LCPS Transportation is providing a crossing guard in front of BRMS.)  Consider creating a HOA walking parent position so there is open communication from community to school if the community has not already done so. (Locust Grove Liaison – Steve Remick)
