A public body’s performance of actions necessary to promote and support the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and cognitive development of a looked after child or care leaver, from infancy through to adulthood. (From Draft Guidance on Part 9 of Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014) What?

Responsibilities 1.To be alert to matters which, or which might, adversely affect the wellbeing of looked after children and care leavers. 2.To assess the needs of those children and young people for services and support in provides. 3.To promote the interests of those children and young people.

4.To seek to provide looked after children and care leavers with opportunities to participate in activities designed to promote their wellbeing. 5.To take action to helped looked after children and care leavers access opportunities, make use of the services and access support they provide. 6.To take any other action it considers appropriate for the purpose of improving the way in which it exercises its functions in relation to looked after children and care leavers. Responsibilities

The Royal Conservatoire Vice Principal met with care experienced young people. Invited care experienced young people to the University Equality and Diversity Forum. Introduced the “Are you care experienced?” box on their application forms. Provided a tailored support package for the three young people who self identified. Applied for the Buttle UK Quality Mark for Care Leavers. And got it! Signed the Pledge 2 Listen. Hosting the Celebration of Care Experienced Students event with Buttle UK and Who Cares? Scotland in June.
