Our Chapters Goals  Develop and continue relationships with our community, promote service, and inspire education within the surrounding areas.  Promote fellowship, service, and scholastic achievement among our student body.  Bring awareness and appreciation to the osteopathic profession within our community.

To Achieve Our Goals We Are:  Building relationships with local schools for tutoring and inspiration.  Supporting local charity events and promoting the osteopathic profession.  Enlightening students and bringing them the tools and awareness for participating in research and taking opportunities to be part of evidence- based medicine.  Promoting study skills and board preparation on campus.

‘OMS-I SOS’ Study Skills Session  A survey was sent to second year students on study habits utilized.  A five-person panel discussion held on their different techniques for success. This was presented to first year students after first test block  Over 50 students participated, and plenty of positive feedback was received.  Will complete a similar event during second semester focusing on new courses.

Research at PNWU!  To promote evidence based medicine we will be holding a ‘Research Mini- Series’ in the spring semester.  This will be several sessions of demonstrating the ease of getting involved in the world of research.  Students will learn from other students about how simple and easy it can be to be involved in the many aspects of evidence based medicine.

 Saturday Sept. 27 th  Sigma Sigma Phi helped sponsor this event, helping to raise $1470 for crime stoppers!  Community members brought personal documents (totaling 60 bins!) for shredding or prescription drugs for safe disposal (6 bags!)  This service was free for the community. Take Back Your Meds!

Washington Middle School Tutoring  We are forming an association with a local middle school that is only 5 minutes from the PNWU campus.  WMS is currently in crisis mode and has been struggling for a long time with test scores labeling it “Washington’s lowest scoring middle school.”  We have started making connections with the counselors and teachers at this school to provide tutoring services for students in need. We are also working to come up with times where we can bring in medical students to the classes and encourage students to work hard in school and motivate them to be interested in their academic future!

COMLEX/USMLE Board Prep  This Spring, Sigma Sigma Phi will be hosting a series of board preparation seminars offered by third and fourth year students available for all second year students looking for some interactive board preparation!  These will be fun, interactive, and informative!

Goals  We are a very new chapter that is—essentially—starting from scratch this year. We are hopeful to define a concrete set of admission standards, and application process for future members.  We will be instituting service requirements of all members, this year and promoting growth within the community of Yakima and our satellite communities for third and fourth year rotating students.  Foster greater fellowship amongst the students of PNWU and build up academic tutoring services for our students and within our community.

THANK YOU!
