MAKING YOUR OWN OVERVIEW OF A BOOK IN THE BIBLE

WHY? - It will help you know where to find what content, quickly & easily. It helps you answer the 5Ws & H in a Book in a short time.

Step I * Pray. Truth is revealed only by the Holy Spirit. (John 14:15-17)

Step II * Read & Re-Read the Book. The Verses shall relate & the Book will stay in your heart. (Joshua 1:8)

Step III * Identify the Type of Literature. Is it Historical, Poetic, Prophetic or a letter?

Step IV * Let the text speak for itself. Do not approach it Subjectively, but Objectively-Let the Spirit direct you.

Step V * Use the 5Ws- Why, Who, when, where, what, & the How? Questioning as you read the text.

Step VI * Discover Facts about the People & the Events. Identify the obvious names. Are there any events? (2 Corith 1:1-2)

Step VII *Mark the KEY-WORDS. i.e. those repeated over & over through the book.

Step VIII * Discern the main theme of the Book. How? From: Keywords Subject Theme (John 20:30-31)

Assignment * Go look at “Hebrews”. Clue: Repeated words: “Jesus our High Priest” (Key-Verse: Heb 4:14-16)
