Understanding of the World
Let’s READ.
Presentation transcript:

Understanding of the World This is an area of learning that will help your child to form a foundation for later work in Science, History, Geography, Design and Technology, and ICT. It helps them to make sense of the world at their level.

In this specific area of learning in the Early Years, Understanding of the World is split into 3 areas; The World People and Communities Technology

The World In this area of learning the children are expected to find out about the world around them; asking questions about it, looking closely at similarities and change, discussing why things happen and why things work. This area of learning is linked to another area of learning, Speaking. So the children really need to be able to communicate their thoughts.

Investigating what happens with magnets. Drawing showing how frog spawn changes. Investigating different living things and materials. Looking at living things, how they are the same or different.

People and Communities In this area of learning the children need to able to discuss a past event in their lives and their families' lives. They also find out about different cultures and beliefs. Again it is heavily reliant on their ability to talk and to communicate similarities and differences between one another.

Mendhi hand decorated for Divali. In the role play area Emma said ‘We are going to try on our dresses today because my aunty is getting married. The boys can’ t see how pretty we are so they have to wait downstairs. She is getting married at a church far away’.

Technology In this area of learning the children need to show that they can build with different materials showing skills in making toys work by pressing parts or lifting flaps to achieve effects such as sound, movements or new images. They also need to know about everyday technology and learn what it is used for.

Using the Bee Bot Investigating old laptops. Picture made on the computer.

Explore the world with your child, talk about what you find, talk about differences and similarities. The more first hand experiences we give them the better, it doesn’t have to be all through a screen.

Thank you for attending our workshop.
