End of School Year Prayer Service “Gathered in One Spirit” End of School Year Prayer Service

Introduction We are here today to remember, to pray, and to think in hope about the future. We are gathered to thank God for our times together, for the friends we have made, for all we have learned about life from our teacher and from each other this year. We are here too, so that we can pray for each other, each one’s happiness in the future. This a time of some sadness and some joy – sad to leave a lot behind, but joy in moving on. We look ahead in hope to know that God will be with us in the future.

Opening Prayer Let us begin our prayer, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. God of mystery, whose voice whispers our name, gather us now in your one Spirit and prepare our hearts to come to your table. We ask this is the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

A reading according to the book of John… I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them. The word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God.

Let us pray that we all continue to be followers of Jesus and that God will watch over each of us and keep us safe throughout the summer months.

Let us pray that we continue to see that face of Jesus in people we meet in our everyday lives.

Let us pray for the poor, the hungry and the homeless, that we won’t forget about them while we are spending time with families and friends this summer.

Let us pray for all the staff at (insert school name), that they will gain peace and strength during the summer months and that they will return in September, ready to continue to inspire and encourage their students.

Let us pray for our graduating students, who are leaving our school, that God will continue to bless them and support them in their future endeavors with his guidance and love.

Let us pray for all the staff and students, who are leaving our school, that they will find successes and friendships in their new schools.

Closing Prayer When the day has finally drawn to its close, it is time to look back over all that has happened and to that God for his presence. Then we can rest sweetly in the calm of his love. God of love, your son, Jesus, did not abandon us but sends us your Spirit to live in our hearts, to burn there with love, to unite us all as brothers and sisters. May we open our hearts to your Spirit of love, and through the same Holy Spirit come to know you, Father and your son, Jesus, who live and reign with you forever and even. Amen. And may Almighty God bless us in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
