WASHINGTON D.C. Is the capital of the USA It’s located between Maryland and Virginia on the north bank of the Potomac River "D.C." stands for the District of Columbia, the federal district. The city is named after George Washington, military leader of the American Revolution and the first President of the United States.

There are many sights to be seen in Washington D.C.

LINCOLN MEMORIAL The Lincoln memorial is a monument honoring the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The memorial is often used as a gathering place for protests and political rallies. The most famous was the March of Washington in 1963, when Martin Luther King delivered his famous speech 'I have a dream' from the Lincoln Memorial.

It stretches from the Lincoln Memorial to the US Capitol.

The main building was burned by the British in 1814 during the War of 1812. Afterward, when the building was being restored, the smoke-stained gray stone walls were painted white. The name “White House,” however, was not used officially until President Theodore Roosevelt. Before that, the building was known variously as the “President's Palace,” the “President's House,” and the “Executive Mansion.”

THE OVAL OFFICE is the official office of the President of the United States

US CAPITOL The US Capitol houses the legislative branch of the American government. The Senate occupies the building's north wing and the House of representatives is housed in the south wing.

PENTAGON The Pentagon is the headquarters of the US Department of defence, located in Arlington County, Virginia On September 11 2001, exactly 60 years after it was built, hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of the Pentagon, killing 189 people, including five hijackers, 59 others aboard the plane, and 125 working in the building.
