What is EBIB ? Bulletin EBIB a LIS journal EBIB – Electonic Library a professional information platform for librarians in Poland

A bit of history What was the first? 29th January 1999, National Library E-bulletin for Polish librarians and information specialists Professional service for librarians and information specialists Bulletin EBIB       EBIB – Electionic Library Professional platform of the Polish Librarians Association And today... EBIB is still evolving

The main tasks of EBIB integration of library environment, creation of the discussion forum, quick and accurate delivery of professional information, creation of Internet sources for librarians.

Why an Open Access model? EBIB mission – OA advocacy Bulletin issues devoted to OA: Open Access and similar initiatives (73) Alternatives to Open Access (97) Open culture and education (101) special on-line service regarding OA Open Access conferences organized by EBIB (2007, 2010) Bulletin EBIB included into DOAJ since 2004 ( Cooperation in translating into Polish important texts dealing with benefits of open access to knowledge, education, information ect. (Communia - The Public Domain Manifesto)

Why an Open Access model? Science moves faster and more efficiently, Greater visibility and impact, Better monitoring, assessment and evaluation of research, Freedom of information. Does OA work – Is EBIB popular? Yes, EBIB is one of the most often read and used Polish LIS periodical. Articles published in Bulletin are cited (citations in 4 Polish LIS journals: , , ) Authors are keen on publishing in Bulletin EBIB EBIB was subject of: scholarly articles conference papers (Aneta Ostrowska, Informetric evaluation of Bulletin EBIB, Inforum 2010: 16 th Conference on Profesional Information Resources, Prague, May 25-27, 2010) master dissertations (Pawel Bigosiński, Bulletin EBIB and its infulence on library environment in Poland, University of Wrocław, 2007)

An English version Source of information about Polish libraries EBIB more visible abroad Created in 2001 thanks to the grant received from The Stefan Batory Foundation

An English version The Open Society Institute grant - 46 texts from Bulletin EBIB 2002 were translated into English and published on-line

How do we work? We work and communicate voluntarily and remotely 25 team members – 6 cities

What tools do we use? To create EBIB content: CMS – Joomla databases (php scripts) MS Office Open Office ….just whatever works To communicate: phone Skype personal meetings
