The Challenge You are CLO of Quantum State Inc, a fast growing company with 10,000 employees which designs, manufactures and markets state-of-the-art electronic devices You are responsible for ensuring the right learning is provided effectively and efficiently to attain corporate and L&D goals You have a great team and good support, but you also have budget and staff constraints

Your Challenge Round 1: Create the 2009 Business Plan for Learning Align learning to corporate objectives Select your interventions from 11 programs, each with multiple options for ILT, WBT, Simulation and Performance Support Select the best duration for each option (e.g. 1/2/5 day ILT or 2/4/8 hr WBT) Maximize return, effectiveness and efficiency subject to your staff and budget constraints

Your Challenge Round 2: Use June year-to-date results to produce a Revised Plan for the year Analyze Effectiveness and Efficiency scorecards to understand what programs are on target and what areas need attention Decide which programs to accelerate, which to slow, which to reinforce Allocate resources to maximize net benefits, effectiveness and efficiency, and attain Level 1 and 2 goals while also achieving WBT usage goals

Learning Objectives Learn how to Strategically align learning to corporate objectives Prioritize Create a business plan for learning with specific, measurable objectives Use economic analysis (opportunity costs, net benefits, marginal benefits and ROI) to choose among different learning options to maximize return

Learning Objectives Learn how to (continued): Reduce opportunity costs through WBT and synchronous distance learning Create practical scorecards aligned to your goals that will help you manage monthly performance. Make tradeoffs and mid-course corrections Revise plans to optimize performance

The Simulation Round 1 offers 11 programs like sales training, safety, design Each program has ILT, WBT interventions. Many also have Simulation and Performance Support interventions Each intervention for ILT, WBT, Sim has three options for duration Key Activities Align programs to corporate objectives. Prioritize Select interventions and options Goals Maximize Net Benefits, Effectiveness and Efficiency scores

The Simulation Round 2 offers Addition of general studies program with large audiences More goals for L&D group. Larger budget YTD results, including Level 1 and 2 Ability to select target audience size for rest of year Option to increase Level 1 and 2 and net benefits at a cost Key Activities Select target audience sizes and adjust amount of WBT/ILT Modify Level 1 and 2 results, net benefits Goals Maximize Net Benefits, Effectiveness & Efficiency scores Achieve Plan Efficiency Savings, Level 1&2 targets, WBT usage targets
