Visual Representation Scott Vassalotti 2/6/2015 University of Phoenix

Cultural group Mexican American is the cultural group that this visual representation represents.

Important milestones The next few slides will go over important dates in history that impacted this culture. Some are looked as beneficial while others are not. It is important to see how American responded to the different cultures coming to America.

Important milestones 1968 was when the Bilingual Education Act, Title VII was passed. This was passed to help counteract the increasing number of dropouts among Hispanics (Immigration Timeline, 2012) Immigration Reform and Control Act is signed. This was sanctions placed on workers who hire illegal immigrants (Immigration Timeline, 2012).

Important Dates Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act is passed- Public assistance is limited to illegal immigrants (Immigration Timeline, 2012) Department of Homeland Security is created.

Important Milestones Bills passed in Congress that help pave the way for illegal immigrants working in America to become citizens. January 10, At lease 80 books are banned due to Arizona State Superintendent rules that a school violated a law that restricted teaching towards a specific ethnic group (Immigration Timeline, 2012).

Dream Act One of the major milestones was the passage of the Dream Act which allowed undocumented students to receive public aid and grants for education (Immigration Timeline, 2012).

Path to America There are lots of Mexican Americans in the United States since it boarders the country. California, Texas, and the southern part of the country are where most Mexican Americans live in America.

Path to America While coming to American can be looked at as an achievement, there are still a lot of challenges that Mexican Americans face. Poverty, lack of good schooling, and high drop out rates are problems that they face.
