The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome For all computer users, please view through and take extra care--- BEWARE!!!!!

The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) or Trigger Fingers is an entrapment idiopathic median neuropathy, causing paresthesia, pain, and other symptoms in the distribution of the median nerve due to its compression at the wrist in the carpal tunnel.

The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The pathophysiology is not completely understood but can be considered compression of the median nerve traveling through the carpal tunnel.

The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The National Center for Biotechnology Information and highly cited older literature say the most common cause of CTS is typing.

The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

More recent research by Lozano- Calderón has cited genetics as a larger factor than use, and has encouraged caution in ascribing causality.

The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Scars from carpal tunnel release surgery. Two different techniques were used. The left scar is 6 weeks old, the right scar is 2 weeks old. Also note the muscular atrophy of the thenar eminence in the left hand, a common sign of advanced CTS.
